AHMEDABAD: The state government has stated in the state assembly that the headquarters of the Western Railway could not be shifted to Ahmedabad as the UPA government had always presented a negative picture of shifting the same to the city.
Replying to the question of Patan MLA Kiritkumar Patel, deputy chief minister Nitin Patel said that when the UPA was at the Centre several representations were made even by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members to shift the Western Railway HQ to Ahmedabad, but the then UPA government raised objections stating that the infrastructure and staff was already in place, and shifting will cause a lot of administrative issues.
Patel said the state government has demanded that the Union government discern ways to shift the Western Railway headquarters to Ahmedabad. However, the discussion heated up when Congress’s leader of opposition, Paresh Dhanani pointed out that the BJP had during the 2014 election sought votes on 107 issues which were not yet resolved. Dhanani said it was an injustice to the state.
